Study At Community College
Higher level programs such as Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees are not offered here. Such educational institutions are also known as vocational or technical Colleges. The student body of a community college is usually made up of people who live in the area around it.
Many students at community colleges transfer to a university 4 year program after completion of the 2 year program offered at the community college. Others choose to attend community colleges in order to acquire a degree as quickly as possible in order to enter the work force and start earning. Others choose to attend a community college for their own personal fulfillment, to enroll in programs or courses which they are interested in or passionate about.
Advantages of a Community College
Community colleges offer a number of advantages to those who study there. As the student population is from the local community, such colleges are cheaper as you can save on living costs by living at home and on the cost of commuting to and from the college. The size of classes is also smaller which means that students can interact with professors and each other more intimately. Another advantage of attending a community college is that there is no pre-requisite for admission, such as the ACT or SAT tests, which are nearly always required for university admissions. For those who have already decided on their careers2, a community college can provide them with the Associate degree they may require for entry into that particular field. Such individuals would then have saved on time and money by acquiring a degree in 2 years instead of the 4 years required for a Bachelor Degree.
Areas of Study at Community Colleges
The best community colleges offer a diverse range of subjects for students to choose from. These range from the liberal arts to the sciences. The most popular programs at community colleges are those related to nursing, computing, law enforcement and radiology. Health care and homeland security are two areas where many graduates of community colleges can be found. Community colleges provide education options to those aiming to become licensed and registered nurses, attendants, radiologists among other health care professionals. Other professionals such as policemen, fire fighters and paralegals can also kick start their careers from a community college. Various other fields are open to those who pursue the relevant degree at a community college. These include a career as a medical transcriptionist, hair stylist, computer network specialist and more.
Choosing a Community College
It is important to choose the Community College that would suit you most. The first step is to shortlist the best community colleges according to the subject you wish you to study. You can then take into consideration any other factors that may be important to you. These may include location, the student clubs on offer, the kind of housing available at the school and more. By choosing the right community college, you can ensure that you get a degree as soon as possible to get you started in the career of your choice.
