What is doctor of medicine?
Right now i’m 17 and this is my first year in college, and my current major is civil engineering. But i kind of want to change it and become a doctor that works like in a hospital maybe. So i was wanting to know what is doctor of medicine. I go to the university of nevada (in reno).
What kind of classes would i have to take? Is there a lot of math involved in this? I know there is in engineering. Lastly, this does not take an effect into my decision, but how much would i make?
Here’s a link, but i don’t know if it helps. http://www.cis.unr.edu/ecatalog/Default.aspx?article_list_id=16415
Start by talking to your advisor. He/she can help you about what’s involved in “pre-med”.
Yes, math is required. It’s handy in other prerequisites such as physics.
Late in your junior year (I think), you take the MCAT. The standard med school admissions test.
Then you apply to a bunch of schools. Your senior year, you interview.
After your undergraduate degree, you’re in med school for 4 years. During that time, you’ll take the first levels of the US medical boards. And get an idea of what specialty (if any) interests you.
During your last year of med school, you interview for residencies. These run from 3 to 12 years, depending on the specialty. Not surprisingly, salaries go up with the years of schooling.
A family doc may make from $150k and up. A cardiac surgeon or a plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, $1million+.
