Massachusetts Governor Issues Proclamation Declaring June 8, 2011 as Family Business Day

The Northeastern University Center for Family Business announced today that Governor Patrick has issued a Proclamation declaring June 8, 2011 as Family Business Day.

“The Governor’s Proclamation is a wonderful way to recognize family businesses for the economic contribution they provide to the Commonwealth.” stated Ted Clark, Executive Director of the Northeastern University Center for Family Business. Clark continued, “Estimates are that family-owned businesses account for 60% of total U.S. employment, 78% of all new jobs, and 65% of wages paid.”

Recognition of family businesses will continue on June 8, 2011 with presentations at the annual Northeastern University Massachusetts Family Business of the Year Awards program. The Family Business Awards program was created to promote and highlight some of the great achievements of Massachusetts-based, family-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.
