Good Universities in Illinois?
I am a junior in high school (almost a senior) and I really need to get serious about college hunting. I am ranked third in my class and have a GPA of 5.1/5.0, have taken or will take the hardest classes my school offers, and participate in many extracurriculars, mostly academic ones (no sports). I haven’t got my ACT scores back yet, but I’ve scored about 31 on the practice tests I took. I’m not sure on my major, but I’m considering majors in possibly bio/chemistry, business/marketing, and also pre-med (which I know can be designated with almost any major).
I have been considering Colleges like U of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Washington U, Saint Louis U, U of Chicago, and Northwestern U. I don’t want to go too far from the Illinois area and I’ve been leaning toward U of I or Wash U.
Has anyone been to any of these schools or know how the atmospheres are? I’ve visited U of I and I will probably visit any other college before I apply, but I would appreciate any input or opinion.
(At least the other guy said SIU-E and not SIU-C. I wouldn’t go to either… they are not the same caliber of the other schools you mentioned.)
Seems like you are right on track. I’m biased because I went to Illinois, but that would be the largest of the schools you mentioned. SLU is smaller… and while a decent school, it’s not as good as the others for the majors you listed.
I’d recommend visiting all of these schools on a weekday in which school is in session, and not with your parents (you don’t need someone in your ear constantly reminding you that Illinois would be the cheapest option). It would be a good idea to really get a feel for these schools to figure out which one is the best fit.
Good luck! You have a good shot at all these schools… take as many AP classes as you can, and you’ll get in.
