Universities of London
London, the capital of England is known for having numerous good universities. It has a lot of universities for higher education. Approximately 50 higher education universities are present at this time. It has the largest number of student in whole of the United Kingdom; there are more than 400,000 students in London. These facts and figure does not add up all the foreigners. As we all know that London is known for its world class educational institutes, there are a lot of universities all offering different subjects to study and different graduate programs.
London is also known for the fact that the education is way too expensive over here than the rest of the world. The federal university also known as the University of London was established back in 1958. It is one of the most ancient and well known universities of England. This is the main university of London where students from more than 180 countries come over there and study over there. They add up to a number of approximately 45,000 students studying in the university. There are other various universities and Colleges that are also present in London. Approximately there are 12 Top Universities in London that are ranked within top 250 universities in the world. Out of the total top 5 universities in United Kingdom, London has two of them the number 5 and number 4 universities.
According to the Times Education Ranking top universities of the world last year, London had its Imperial College London at the 5th number. Imperial college is basically a research university which offers specialized courses in Science, Medicine, Business and Engineering. This university recently celebrated its 100th birthday recently in 2007, each year they groom candidates that are of the top level. It is located in central London. The next comes in the University of London that is ranked at number 4 in the world i.e. University College London (according to the world university ranking 2009). It is also a research university and the largest constituent college of the University of London. It was founded in 1828 and it was the first university institute that was found in London and the first one to be established on secular basis. They were the first ones who came up with the idea and went on with the idea that all students will be admitted regardless of their religion. They also worked on the fact that women must also be admitted on the equivalent basis of men. It is one of the biggest universities of London and is divided in more than 100 different sectors and the faculty is divided into eight parts. Other than that, many foreign universities are also present in London. These were 2 of the main higher colleges of London but there are a lot of other higher colleges of lower level and are offering studies in almost every field possible whether that is drama, pharmaceuticals, art or music and much more. This show how important is London for the United Kingdom and the world in terms of education.
